Weight Loss Wednesday: How did we do?

It’s a sigh of relief for some of us, as Weight Loss Wednesday comes to an end – we can eat chocolate again! For others, it is just the beginning of a new healthy lifestyle.

It’s been a quick six weeks of weight loss and there were some ups and downs along the way. From one week to another, some people lost weight while others put a little weight back on.

One thing we have learned is that it’s ok to gain weight sometimes. It’s important to listen to your body and, if you need to take a rest from exercising or eating healthily, then give yourself a break.

Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself every now and again. One cheat meal or cheat snack isn’t going to ruin all the hard work you’ve put in – just make sure that cheat meal doesn’t turn into a cheat week or month!

How much did we lose?

About 25 of the team took part in the competition and the combined weight lost totalled 47kg (104lbs).

This is a great first step in the right direction to a healthier lifestyle. The next challenge is maintaining that weight loss now we don’t have anyone to hold us accountable!

A huge thank you to Janice, our office manager, who encouraged us every step of the way – we could not have done it without her useful weight loss tips.

And the winner is…

This week we announced the winner of the competition. Congratulations to Kat Young from our marketing team, who lost the most weight as a percentage of her original weight.

Kat lost 12.98lbs in six weeks and plans to continue losing the pounds until she reaches her goal weight. Here’s what the winner had to say about the competition:

How did you find the weight loss competition?

I found it easier to lose weight because of the competition element – I’m really competitive!

I was more motivated to lose weight knowing that Janice knew how much I weighed too. Knowing summer is coming up is always a great motivator!

What are your top tips for losing weight?

Choose healthy alternatives, I always find this helps.

Instead of eating a chocolate bar, eat a Kind or Naked bar (all natural ingredients), replace white potato with sweet potato (it tastes so much better too!); substitute egg noodles for extra vegetables or rice noodles, or try using pea or lentil pasta.

Also, don’t starve yourself, because then when you get home or go to the shops you just end up pigging out because you’re so hungry!

Do you think you’ll continue your healthy lifestyle?

I quite like exercising anyway, so I can easily maintain that. But food is my favourite hobby, so that’s my downfall!

I will continue to eat healthy during the week and treating myself on the weekends, but not going crazy! I would like to maintain my weight and maybe lose a bit more.

Money for charity

Not only have we lost pounds of weight, we’ve raised £104 for charity.

Our Senior Management team also agreed to make a company donation before the competition began to offer £1 for every 1lb lost. Our chosen charity is a local charity called Julia’s House, Wiltshire and Dorset Children’s Hospices.

Well done to Kat and all our Weight Loss Wednesday-ers!
